Plaka is Milos's traditional capital, with white lanes, a Venetian castle viewpoint and immediate access to Trypiti's archaeology and Klima.
Plaka spreads below the remains of a Venetian castle, where a short climb ends with views across Milos's great natural harbour. The Archaeological Museum holds a copy of the Venus de Milo and finds that set the island's volcanic scenery within a much longer history.
Nearby Trypiti contains early Christian catacombs and an ancient theatre above the colourful boat houses of Klima. Plaka's pedestrian lanes are strongest in the evening, when small restaurants and bars open around quiet churches and courtyards.
Practical information
Buses link Plaka with Adamas, Trypiti and major beaches. Cars park outside the centre; arrive before sunset and wear secure shoes for the castle path.
