Rineia is a sparsely inhabited island opposite Delos, carrying important ancient cemeteries and beaches reached on private sailing trips.
When burials were prohibited on sacred Delos, Rineia became its necropolis. Archaeological remains and ancient graves survive across a landscape now used lightly for grazing and seasonal farming.
The island's sheltered coves attract sailing trips from Mykonos, often paired with a view of Delos. Rineia has no public town or organised beach facilities, and its archaeological areas require restraint rather than informal exploration.
Practical information
There is no regular ferry. Join a licensed small-group sailing trip, do not remove or disturb material, and respect private land and any temporary archaeological restrictions.
