Serifos combines a striking two-tier Chora, uncrowded beaches and powerful industrial landscapes around its former iron mines.
Serifos Chora climbs steeply above Livadi, its upper square, castle remains and churches opening to broad Aegean views. The island's beauty is not only whitewashed: rusted loading bridges, mine galleries and workers' settlements around Megalo Livadi record a difficult industrial past.
Beaches such as Psili Ammos, Ganema and Vagia range from soft sand to broad pebbled bays. Roads are quieter than on larger islands, and old paths still connect villages, monasteries and the mining coast.
Practical information
Ferries arrive at Livadi from Piraeus and nearby islands. A car helps with beaches; never enter mine tunnels or unstable structures, and use marked walking routes.
