Therasia shares Santorini's volcanic history but keeps a small population, steep footpaths and a far slower rhythm around Manolas and Korfos.
Therasia formed part of the same island as Santorini before the great Bronze Age eruption. Today Manolas sits high on the caldera rim, reached from Korfos harbour by hundreds of steps, with views back towards Oia and the volcanic islets.
Potamos preserves cave houses and a lived-in village atmosphere, while abandoned Agrilia offers fragile vernacular architecture. Therasia has few services and should not be treated as merely a crowd-free photo location.
Practical information
Local boats run from Ammoudi and Athinios on schedules that vary. Wear good shoes for steep paths, carry cash and water, and avoid entering unstable abandoned buildings.
