Ten historic rooms on Chania’s Venetian harbour
Domus Renier occupies part of a 16th-century mansion once associated with Chania’s Venetian Renier family. The old harbour lies outside the front door, while a rear entrance opens straight into the lanes of the old town. Only ten rooms and suites sit within the historic fabric, and surviving stonework, high ceilings and unusual layouts give each more personality than a standard luxury conversion. Service is warm and highly attentive without becoming ceremonial.
Breakfast is cooked to order and can be taken beside the waterfront; sea-facing suites make the most of the lighthouse view, but some less expensive rooms face the alley and should be chosen with that distinction in mind. There is no pool, spa complex or private parking, and driving into the pedestrianised harbour quarter is impractical. Domus Renier is therefore best for couples and independent travellers who want to experience Chania on foot, value history over resort facilities and are happy to leave a hire car at the edge of the old town.
