A polished city hotel at the practical edge of the old town
Samaria stands on 1866 Square beside Chania’s central bus station, about five minutes on foot from the old town and ten from the harbour. The immediate streets are modern and busy rather than picturesque, but the position is unusually useful: airport buses, Samaria Gorge connections and regional services leave close by, while taxis and valet parking remove much of the friction of a city-centre arrival. Inside, the mood is calm, contemporary and notably well maintained.
Rooms are conventional in layout but comfortable, with good soundproofing and service that earns unusually consistent praise. A generous breakfast, small courtyard pool, gym and proper restaurant make the hotel easier for longer stays than many old-town conversions. The pool is a place for a cooling swim rather than a resort afternoon, and views are mostly urban; travellers seeking romance directly on the Venetian waterfront should choose differently. Samaria is the strongest all-round Chania base for families, drivers and anyone balancing city evenings with early buses or ambitious day trips across western Crete.
