This is the museum to choose when a first visit to Mytilene allows only one archaeological collection. Rather than presenting an undifferentiated timeline, the New Building concentrates on Hellenistic and Roman Lesbos, especially the prosperity visible in excavated villas. Mosaic floors, fresco fragments, sculpture and household material show how wealthy residents shaped private space and participated in the wider Aegean world.
Give the galleries about ninety minutes, then continue on foot towards the castle and Epano Skala so the collection feeds into the city rather than replacing it. The Ministry lists parking, a ramp, lift and accessible toilets, but confirm any specific access need and current opening hours before arrival. The Old Building is a separate site undergoing change; do not assume one ticket or opening notice covers both.
