Theopetra expands a Meteora journey far beyond medieval monasticism. Excavations in the cave revealed evidence spanning the Middle Palaeolithic to the Neolithic, including traces of changing climate and early construction. The documentation centre helps translate that deep chronology through finds and reconstruction.
Access to the cave itself has changed over time for conservation and safety reasons. Confirm the current status of both cave and centre before travelling, and do not rely on an old blog or map label. Even when only the interpretation centre is available, the site adds crucial scale to the region’s human story.
