Salt crust cracks beside ancient Olous
Kanali occupies the narrow water channel beside the submerged remains of Olous, away from Elounda's central restaurant row. Staff ignite and crack the salt crust around whole sea bass at the table; beet salad, grilled octopus and seafood orzo fill the gaps.
Specify the fish weight before cooking and reserve an outside canal table. Recent July reviews report detached service and weaker lobster dishes despite strong starters, so avoid peak hour, order the salt-baked fish and keep staff within sight if drinks need replacing.
What visitors say
Kanali holds 4.6 from about 1,377 Tripadvisor reviews and 4.5 from over 1,300 Google ratings; fish and canal seating lead praise, while recent criticism targets aloof service and uneven high-cost seafood.
