Visit an exposed east-coast pilgrimage place for context, not merely for the wide sea view
Agios Mamas belongs to Kasos's religious and communal geography. Its remote east-coast setting opens broad sea views, while the annual feast brings worship, music, food and visitors through the night. Outside the celebration, the value is quieter: the journey shows the island's dry interior and the importance of small sacred places beyond the linked settlements.
Confirm whether the church and compound are open before travelling, and do not enter closed buildings or service areas. The final road is exposed, with little shade or support, so take water and leave time to return before dark. At the feast, dress respectfully for worship, follow local seating and meal customs, contribute when appropriate and ask before photographing people, musicians or the liturgy.
