Marmara Beach, Armathia

Marmara is the pale sandy beach on uninhabited Armathia, reached from Kasos by local excursion boat only when wind and sea state permit.

Our take

Give Kasos's finest sand a movable day of its own instead of gambling an onward connection

Marmara is visually unlike Kasos's rocky shores: a broad pale strand and shallow turquoise water on the uninhabited islet of Armathia. Its isolation is the attraction and the constraint. There is no public ferry or village service, and a licensed excursion from Fry is the sensible route. Schedule it early in the stay so a windy cancellation can be reconsidered later.

Ask the operator about shade, drinking water, toilet arrangements, flotation equipment and the exact return time before paying. Carry food, sun protection and any medication you need, then take every item back to Kasos. The shallow colour does not guarantee a calm crossing or supervised swimming. Follow the skipper's landing instructions, avoid dunes and wildlife, and never pressure a boat to depart in doubtful conditions.
