Meganisi Southern-Coast Boat Day

A licensed boat from Vathy or Spilia can combine Papanikolis Cave with remote southern coves, adapting the route to wind, swimming ability and safe landings.

Our take

See the island's roadless peninsula without reducing the day to one cave

Meganisi's southern peninsula is the part of the island that roads do not explain. A well-planned boat day shows its narrow profile, long unbuilt coast and small pebble coves before reaching Papanikolis Cave. Ask for a route that allows time outside the headline stop. A quiet swim in suitable water often says more about the coast than waiting among several vessels at the cave entrance.

Use a licensed operator and confirm capacity, shade, toilet, lifejackets, fuel, skipper, insurance and cancellation terms before paying. Self-drive boats require the correct licence and a thorough briefing; they are not the place to learn anchoring near swimmers or rock. Tell the operator about children, non-swimmers and mobility needs. Carry water and sun protection, and accept that the safest itinerary may omit the cave or exposed south when conditions change.
