Cross the market between a working harbour and a mansion-lined sunset shore
Begin at the old port on Tourkikos Gialos while fishing boats and ferry activity are visible. Pass through the market streets toward the castle neck, then emerge on Romeikos Gialos where neoclassical houses face west. Continue to the archaeological museum and return through the inner town rather than retracing the shore.
The basic loop takes about ninety minutes, but the museum or castle turns it into most of a day. Pavement is uneven around older streets and summer traffic tightens crossings near the port. Start late afternoon for cooler air and western light, but complete unfamiliar lanes before dark. Keep ferry operations and private house entrances clear.
