Paleo Trikeri Island and Memory Walk

A half-day walking circuit links Paleo Trikeri harbour, the Evangelistria monastery, beaches and surviving places associated with women political exiles.

Our take

Cross the olive-covered island while giving its women's-exile sites the attention a beach walk alone cannot provide

The circuit brings the island's beauty and difficult history into deliberate contact. Olive paths climb to Evangelistria and pass remains associated with the thousands of women sent here between 1948 and 1953, including communal structures created during exile. Continue to a beach only after allowing time to read and reflect.

Seek local guidance because interpretation and path markings can vary. Carry water, protect against heat and avoid entering unstable remains. Treat memorials as places of mourning, not backdrops. A shorter harbour-to-monastery return works better for children and anyone with limited walking confidence.
