Commit a full day to Amorgos's old high route between Chora and the Aegiali villages
Palia Strata reveals the scale of Amorgos better than a road transfer. The route leaves Chora, passes the Hozoviotissa area and continues through exposed mountain terrain toward Potamos, Langada and Aegiali. Chapels, terraces and long views appear along a path once used for practical movement between communities. It is a point-to-point mountain day, not a scenic promenade.
Consult the municipality's current route information and arrange the return before starting. Distance, ascent, rough stone and minimal shade demand proper footwear, water, food and an early departure; summer midday heat and strong meltemi wind can make the trail unsafe. Mobile coverage is not a substitute for an offline map. Tell your accommodation the plan, avoid walking alone in marginal weather and turn back if route finding becomes uncertain. Shorter signed sections are a better choice for inexperienced hikers.
