Choose a current route and turnaround point before entering Taygetos terrain
Viros is a mountain undertaking, not an extension of a casual Old Kardamyli stroll. Routes can begin around Kardamyli or higher villages and may combine gorge bed, old paving, loose rock and exposed sections. The landscape is rewarding precisely because it reaches far into Taygetos. Travellers who want history and views without the full commitment should choose a shorter signed loop through nearby settlements with local guidance.
Obtain same-week information from an experienced local guide or accommodation that knows the route, then match distance to every member of the group. Carry an offline map, ample water, food, sun protection, first-aid basics and proper footwear. Do not enter during or after heavy rain; flash water, erosion and rockfall can outlast the storm.
