Potistika Beach

Potistika combines a broad sand-and-pebble shore with large granite formations and enough space to feel open, even when its seasonal organised section is busy.

Our take

South Pelion's wide, rock-framed Aegean beach

Potistika sits on South Pelion's Aegean coast, below the villages of Xinovrysi and Argalasti. The beach is broader than many of the peninsula's eastern coves, with coarse sand, pebble and sculptural boulders dividing the view. There is room to choose between a lightly organised area and quieter open shore, which makes it a useful destination for travellers based around Lafkos or Argalasti.

The open sea determines the day. Waves can build quickly and the large rocks create turbulence, so do not swim close to them when swell is present. The approach road is winding and the last walk across loose ground is not step-free. Seasonal food and umbrellas should be treated as conveniences rather than guarantees; bring water, shade and shoes, and leave before dark if you are uncomfortable driving rural roads at night.
