Ammos Beach

Ammos is the island's most practical beach, with relatively shallow water and immediate access to the port settlement, tavernas and rooms.

Our take

The easy village swim beside Othonoi's essential services

Ammos will never look as remote as the west-coast coves, but it is the beach visitors can use most often. The village bay sits beside accommodation and food, and its shallower entry makes it a calmer choice for families or a last swim before the ferry. It is also the sensible fallback when wind prevents boats from reaching Aspri Ammos.

Port activity and boat movements mean swimmers must stay alert and use the bathing section rather than crossing working approaches. Facilities belong to the surrounding settlement and may be seasonal; do not assume a lifeguard, accessible shower or equipment rental is present. Water shoes can help where pebble patches meet the sand. Keep the quay clear with luggage, supervise children continuously and ask locally about the safest entry if wind or ferry wash changes conditions.
