A west-coast sea cave where landscape and Homeric tradition meet
The cave opens from the sea beside Aspri Ammos, creating the physical setting for Othonoi's association with Calypso and Odysseus. That story should be presented honestly: Othonoi is one proposed location for the mythical Ogygia, not a proven archaeological identification. The deep turquoise entrance and small interior shore are compelling without converting literature into fact.
Use a licensed skipper and let sea state determine whether the boat approaches or anyone enters the water. Strong swimmers may cover the short distance from Aspri Ammos only in genuinely calm conditions and with local agreement; swell, reflected waves and boat traffic make a cave more demanding than an open beach. Wear a flotation aid where advised, never climb unstable walls and do not pressure an operator to enter for a photograph.
