A full island day on old lanes above the harbour
Walking is the best way to understand how Othonoi fits together. From Ammos, lanes climb away from the ferry and coast through olives and scattered houses towards Chorio, with longer options continuing to the lighthouse. The route trades constant sea-level ease for alternating harbour views, quiet settlement and a closer sense of the small permanent community.
Ask the cultural association, accommodation or a local resident which paths are currently clear; vegetation and informal junctions can make an old route difficult to follow. Download mapping, carry more water than the distance suggests and avoid the hottest hours. Wear shoes with grip and a hat, take a light for a late return and do not cut through private land. Shorten the route if wind, heat, thunder or an approaching ferry changes the day.
