Monodendri Beach

Monodendri is a remote pebble beach named for its lone tree, with no dependable services and greater exposure than coves near the village.

Our take

Make the longer trip to Leipsoi's exposed eastern shore only when the wind agrees

Monodendri feels properly separate from the harbour. A single tree marks the broad, stony shore, but it cannot provide enough shade for everyone and should not be treated as a guaranteed shelter. The eastern exposure can produce chop even when western bays look calm, making a wind check essential.

Arrange transport both ways or undertake the walk only with sufficient water, an offline map and cooler temperatures. Wear aqua shoes and carry food, shade and a charged phone. This is not the best choice for toddlers or anyone needing facilities; turn back without hesitation if the sea or heat is uncomfortable.
