Pair a shallow rural bay with lunch beside the water, checking transport before lingering over the final course
Platis Gialos combines an easy entry with a rural north-coast setting. The water is typically shallow and the sand makes it friendlier for small children than the island's white-pebble coves. A taverna by the bay can make this a full day, but its opening period and the return bus should never be assumed.
The bay can collect wind or sea grass according to conditions. Bring shade, reserve lunch in busy weeks and ask the driver about the last service before settling in. Ducks sometimes share the shore; do not feed them processed food or leave scraps.
