Papafragas is a tiny strip of sand inside a rock cleft near Phylakopi, reached by a steep path and unsuitable when north wind drives swell into the channel.

A narrow volcanic inlet better viewed than entered in wind
Papafragas is less a conventional beach than a narrow sea corridor cut into pale volcanic rock. From the roadside viewpoint, steps descend to a very small sandy pocket between cliffs. The prehistoric site of Phylakopi lies nearby.
The descent is steep, eroded and unguarded in places. Do not attempt it in strong wind, rough water or unsuitable footwear, and never jump from the cliffs. With little sand and no facilities, the viewpoint may be the better experience on busy days.
