Plaka suits travellers who want a beach day without the port immediately behind them. Its northwestern position, trees and open view create a different mood from Livadia, while the mixed shore makes water shoes useful. The beach is sometimes associated with free-roaming peafowl; observe any animals from a distance and never use food to draw them closer for photographs.
A car, scooter or taxi is the reliable way to reach Plaka because bus coverage and seasonal schedules can be limited. Bring drinking water, food, shade and a rubbish bag even if a business appears on an online map. The north coast can take wind and swell that the eastern bay avoids, and mobile reception should not be treated as guaranteed. Turn back if the access road or sea conditions exceed the driver or swimmer's confidence.
