An abandoned village best understood before its summer nightlife begins
Mikro Chorio is not a purpose-built ruin. Families moved away over decades, many towards Livadia, leaving stone walls, lanes, cisterns and the restored church to record the shape of the village. Visit in clear daylight first, when the relationship between houses, valley and distant sea is legible. The seasonal bar that operates among the ruins after dark is a separate experience, not the only reason to come.
The ground is uneven, loose masonry can shift and abandoned structures are not certified viewpoints. Stay on obvious public routes, keep out of unstable interiors and do not climb walls for photographs. Early morning or late afternoon gives cooler walking and softer light, but carry a torch if sunset is close. Ask locally about the summer bar's transport; never plan to walk an unlit road after drinking.
