Athens Capital Hotel – MGallery Collection

A polished central hotel with a serious Greek art collection, assured service and a compact rooftop pool, exceptionally well placed for both the historic centre and Kolonaki.

Our take

Contemporary art and a rooftop pool beside Syntagma

Athens Capital occupies the corner where Syntagma Square meets the lower edge of Kolonaki, opposite Parliament and a minute from the metro. The interiors are contemporary rather than ostentatious, with Greek marble, restrained colours and an unusually thoughtful collection of modern Greek art. Its 177 rooms make this a proper full-service city hotel, yet the atmosphere feels calmer and more personal than the scale suggests.

The rooftop brings together a seasonal pool, bar and restaurant with views towards the Acropolis and Lycabettus Hill. The pool is small and best understood as a cooling pause between city walks, not somewhere to spend an entire resort day. Entry-level rooms can feel compact, so longer stays benefit from choosing a larger category; light sleepers should also request a room away from the busiest street frontage. Athens Capital is an excellent modern-luxury alternative to the capital’s grand historic hotels, especially for travellers who want Syntagma convenience without old-world formality.
