Diporto is reached by descending one of two street-level doors near Varvakios Market. Inside, wine barrels, shared tables and a tiny selection of cooked dishes preserve the rhythm of an old Athenian mageireio. The appeal is not choice or presentation but directness: ask what is ready, accept the day’s sequence and eat as the room has long eaten.
Go at lunch, carry cash and arrive without a demand for a particular dish. Hours and days can be irregular, and that unpredictability is part of dealing with a living, small operation rather than a themed attraction. If it is closed, use the moment to explore the market district instead of treating the meal as a failed reservation.
