Grown-up design and an unusually thoughtful breakfast near Nikiana
Thomais is a small adults-only hotel for travellers who prefer attentive hosts and a strong breakfast to the machinery of a large resort. Its contemporary rooms use excellent Coco-Mat beds and have more personality than the island’s standard studios; the 18-square-metre Lifestyle rooms are compact, while the deluxe rooms and top suite provide noticeably more space. Mornings are a real strength, built around homemade pies, cakes, preserves and Lefkada produce rather than a perfunctory buffet. A small garden pool doubles as an aqua-gym, and the seasonal Vivarium restaurant gives dinner a modern Greek and wine-led emphasis.
The hotel stands on the east-coast road at Episkopos, about 800 metres before Nikiana and seven kilometres from Lefkada Town. An organised beach is roughly 200 metres away, but traffic noise is possible and this is not a toes-in-the-sand stay. The traditional building has no lift, the pool is intimate and a car remains the easiest way to reach the island’s dramatic western beaches. Thomais is Lefkada’s best small adults-only boutique choice for couples who value food, design and genuinely involved hosting over sea-front seclusion or extensive resort facilities.
