Read Halkidiki as one connected archaeological landscape before driving between its beaches and ancient cities
The museum is the strongest reason to make Polygyros more than a lunch stop. Reopened with a new permanent exhibition in 2022, it moves through place and history, prehistoric societies, historical periods, and collections. Objects from Agios Mamas, Olynthos, Toroni, Kriaritsi and Nea Skioni connect sites that many visitors encounter separately. Interactive material also gives context to archaeological research, written sources and Aristotle.
Allow ninety minutes before visiting Olynthos or another site, not after a full beach day. Current public information lists Tuesday closure, but hours and ticket arrangements should be checked on the Ministry of Culture page close to travel. Do not use flash or touch cases. Ask at the desk about lifts, seating and accessible toilets; the expanded building is more substantial than the old museum described in outdated guides. Families should start with the map to choose a manageable route.
