Give modern Greek painting its own visit instead of treating the gallery as an appendix to folk heritage
The gallery broadens Metsovo beyond stone architecture and pastoral food. Its collection focuses on modern Greek painters and sculptors, including works gathered by Evangelos Averoff and later acquisitions. The purpose-built rooms make this a distinct art visit, not an overflow display from the nearby Tositsa mansion. Temporary exhibitions can change what is available.
Set aside at least an hour and check the official calendar for closures or exhibition changeovers. The central location makes it easy to pair with the folk museum, but doing both back-to-back can flatten their very different subjects. Ask about lift access and educational material before arrival if needed. Use the artwork labels rather than assuming every landscape depicts Metsovo.
