Leave the sheltered town only when the high plateau weather makes a lake circuit sensible
The lake offers open horizons and a sharp contrast with Metsovo's compact streets. Small inlets, forest edges and grazing land make the drive or cycle visually rewarding, but there is no single grand viewpoint that justifies unsafe conditions. Stop only where the vehicle is fully clear of the road and avoid disturbing livestock, nesting birds or waterside vegetation.
Weather changes quickly at this elevation. Fog, wind, snow and ice can make the plateau unsuitable even when the town is calm. Download the route, carry water and fuel, and return before dusk. Mobile coverage is uneven. Winter travel requires local advice and proper equipment; this is not the place to test an ordinary rental car against snow.
