Start with the ships, logbooks and local archive before walking the captains' town
Galaxidi makes more sense after an hour here. Portraits of local sailing ships, nautical instruments, charts and material from the municipal archive reconstruct a town whose wealth and risks were tied to the sea. The collection also reaches much further back through the area's archaeology, but the nineteenth-century maritime rooms give the clearest context for the captains' houses outside.
The museum currently publishes Tuesday to Sunday opening and closes on Monday; confirm the day's hours before travelling from Delphi. Labels do not replace the value of a guided explanation, so ask whether one is available. The historic building has access constraints worth discussing in advance. Allow sixty to ninety minutes, then walk to Agios Nikolaos and the old harbour while the ship portraits are still fresh.
