Ancient Kamiros

One of ancient Rhodes’ three principal cities, laid out across a west-coast hillside with houses, agora, reservoir and sanctuary terraces.

Our take

A terraced Rhodian city facing the Aegean

Kamiros is memorable as an urban plan. From the upper terrace, streets and houses descend towards the agora, with water management, domestic blocks and sanctuaries arranged across the slope. The site lacks one monumental building that dominates the visit; its strength is seeing how a complete Hellenistic city fitted its terrain.

Allow ninety minutes and wear stable shoes for the stepped circuit. Shade is scarce and the west coast can be windy. Kamiros works on a measured loop from Rhodes Town with one beach or village stop, not as an add-on to Lindos on the opposite side of the island. Check closing time before driving west in the afternoon.
