The accessible section helps explain why Kythnos's interior mattered as much as its coast. It should not be described as an unrestricted cavern: only the authorised visitor route is appropriate.
Confirm opening with the Municipality of Kythnos shortly before travelling because staffing and seasonal schedules can change. The cave remains cool even in summer; closed shoes and a light layer make the visit more comfortable. Floors can be damp, uneven and unsuitable for limited mobility. Never cross barriers, enter a closed gallery or rely on a phone light. Allow time to explore Dryopida before or after rather than parking in its narrow residential centre.
