A small monastery fitted into a vertical gorge wall
Kipina seems to emerge from the cliff rather than sit against it. The monastery occupies a natural cavity above the Kalarrytikos gorge on the road towards Kalarrytes, with a short wooden bridge completing the final approach. Its scale is intimate, and the combination of stone cells, chapel and vertical landscape is more affecting when visited quietly rather than as a hurried roadside photograph.
Access is constrained by narrow roads, limited parking and an exposed final path that may be slippery or closed. Opening depends on the local keyholder and conditions, so ask your accommodation to confirm current arrangements before driving. Dress respectfully, keep voices low and do not use flash inside. Visitors with vertigo or limited mobility should assess the approach carefully; there is no step-free route and turning space near the entrance is limited.
