Sixteen centuries of Parian faith and architecture
Often translated as the Church of a Hundred Doors, Ekatontapiliani is far richer than its nickname. The complex beside Parikia’s archaeological museum gathers an early Christian basilica, later Byzantine work, chapels and one of the best-preserved ancient baptisteries in the Aegean. Its cool stone interior offers both historical depth and a welcome pause from the port’s movement.
This remains an active place of worship, not simply a monument. Dress with consideration, lower your voice and avoid pushing through a service for photographs. The complex becomes especially busy around the Assumption celebrations in August; visit at a quieter hour if you want to study the architecture.
