Trade the coast for cold river water and plane-tree shade on a focused inland day
The Acheron provides the strongest inland contrast to Parga's beach days. From the visitor area near Glyki, paths follow clear, cold water beneath trees and sections can involve wading over stones. Myth gives the river a famous name, but the practical appeal is immediate: shade, moving water and a mountain landscape that feels far from the busy harbour.
Drive or book a transfer and allow most of a day rather than combining it hurriedly with several archaeological stops. Water depth, current and temperature change after rain, so follow local warnings and never enter a section you cannot safely exit. Wear secure water shoes, protect electronics and bring dry clothing. Riding, rafting and canyon activities are run by separate providers; check licensing, insurance, helmets and guide ratios before booking rather than assuming every riverside stand offers the same standard.
