Look back across Parga's coast from the fortress built to control it from inland
Parga's harbour castle tells only half the story. Ali Pasha's fortress stands inland between Anthousa and Agia, positioned to watch the town and approaches he was determined to control. Surviving walls, gun positions and vaulted spaces are more austere than the Venetian site below, while the outlook clarifies the relationship between coast, villages and mountain routes.
Reach the castle by road, organised excursion or a demanding uphill walk from the Anthousa area. There is little shade and unguarded masonry, loose ground and abrupt edges require care. Do not climb walls or enter closed chambers. Sunset is appealing, but only stay if transport and a safe descent in fading light are settled. Interpretation on site may be limited, so read the municipality's account beforehand or visit with a licensed local guide.
