Cross both mansion districts to understand the trading city behind Kastoria's lakefront
Doltso preserves the denser southern old town around its square, where tall mansions and museums reflect commercial wealth. Apozari stretches along the northern shore with another group of houses and churches, including Tsiatsiapa Mansion. Walking both prevents Kastoria from becoming only a lakeside panorama and reveals how neighbourhood, trade and worship fitted together.
Allow two to three hours with church and museum stops. Cobbles, steep lanes and irregular pavements make secure shoes important, especially after rain or frost. Many churches have limited opening and homes remain private, so admire closed buildings without testing doors or entering courtyards. Download the municipal lake-tour route and split the walk across two days if winter daylight is short.
