Metsovo Town and Food Walk

A self-guided circuit through the square and upper lanes connects Metsovo's stone architecture with cheese, pies, woodwork and everyday shopping.

Our take

Compare dairies, bakeries and working lanes before ordering every local speciality at one table

Start near the Averoff Gallery, climb away from the coach stops and return through the market streets. Look for dairies selling metsovone and metsovela, then compare a bakery pie with the richer restaurant versions. Woodwork and woven goods remain visible, but ask where an item was made before presenting it as a local craft.

Two hours is enough without museum stops. Pavement is steep and can be polished by rain, ice and heavy foot traffic, so wear shoes with grip. Small shops may close in the afternoon or outside weekend demand. Buy cheese near the end of the walk and ask how long it can travel unrefrigerated before carrying it onward.
