Let the skipper and swell determine the west-coast route, because entering every cave is not the measure of a successful day
The west coast changes Paxos completely. White limestone cliffs replace the sheltered eastern harbours, and erosion has cut arches and chambers including the large Ypapanti cave. A small licensed excursion or private skippered boat can adjust pace, explain the formations and choose a swim stop away from the most congested entrances. Morning light is useful, but safe water matters more than colour.
Ask who operates the vessel, what insurance and safety equipment cover, and whether shade, water and a toilet are available. A responsible skipper will shorten the route or keep the boat outside a cave when swell, falling stone or traffic creates risk. Wear the lifejacket when instructed, keep hands inside during close approaches and never pressure the crew to repeat a manoeuvre for video. Seasickness medication should be discussed before departure, not after symptoms begin.
