Climb from port to castle through the streets that still reveal Nafpaktos's defensive layers
Begin at the harbour towers and move behind Botsaris Tower into Stenopazaro, where the narrow street preserves the scale of the lower fortified town. Continue through the rising neighbourhoods rather than following the fastest vehicle road. Gates, wall fragments and sudden views show how each defensive tier controlled movement between the sea and citadel.
The full return walk takes roughly two to three hours when you stop at the museum and viewpoints. It includes steep paving, steps and exposed upper sections, so secure shoes and water matter. Download a municipal route or map before starting because signs do not explain every fragment. In hot weather, reverse the plan: reach the castle early, then descend into shade.
