Marathontas Beach

Marathontas is an undeveloped Pserimos cove away from the harbour, appealing to capable walkers who arrive entirely self-sufficient.

Our take

Choose a quieter southern cove only after checking the footpath and wind with somebody on the island

Marathontas offers the space absent from Avlakia during excursion hours, but isolation is the trade. Tracks can be indistinct, summer ground is exposed and the small shore has no dependable service. Its orientation means conditions should be assessed locally rather than inferred from the village bay.

Ask your host for the current route and realistic walking time. Carry offline mapping, shade, food and ample water, and do not attempt the outing in sandals. Solo visitors should share their plan. A licensed local boat is the better option if heat or mobility makes the walk unsafe.
