Plakias Beach

Plakias combines a broad sand-and-pebble shore with shops, buses and restaurants, while the bay's famous wind calls for daily condition checks.

Our take

A long south-coast beach backed by a useful resort town

Plakias Beach begins beside the village and runs east beneath the surrounding mountains. Its length allows for busy organised areas, quieter public stretches and a traditionally clothing-optional zone near the far end, all within reach of town services.

Strong katabatic wind can funnel down the valleys and turn an otherwise easy beach day into a blown-sand ordeal. Check the forecast locally and use the sheltered coves farther east when necessary. The entry varies from sand to fine pebble, and submerged shelves appear near the edges.
