Psili Ammos Beach

Psili Ammos is a small, pale-sand bay beyond Messaria, best on calm days when its exposed northeast setting is working in your favour.

Our take

Fine sand on the island's wind-facing northeast

Psili Ammos lies beyond Messaria on Schinoussa's northeast side. Fine sand continues into the shallows and climbs the low slope behind the bay, giving the beach a softer appearance than the island's rockier coves. The same open position that brings clean water also leaves it exposed to the meltemi.

Check the wind before walking out and have a second beach in mind. In settled conditions, the sandy entry makes this an easy place to swim and linger; in a strong northerly, blowing sand and short waves can make it uncomfortable. A seasonal taverna operates nearby, but opening dates and hours should never be assumed outside high summer.
