Deli

Deli pairs an upstairs sea view with Greek cooking shaped by Cretan technique, local fish, island meat and Schinoussa's sharply flavoured summer produce.

Our take

A polished Greek kitchen above Chora's main lane

Deli occupies Chora's short main street but opens far beyond it from the upper dining room. Chef Dimitris Papadakis and Evdokia Despotidis built the restaurant around Greek ingredients and a kitchen informed by work in Crete and abroad. The result is not a generic island menu: local fish and meat sit beside caper leaves, soft cheese, vegetables and carefully made sauces.

Start with the day's seafood and one or two vegetable dishes, then ask which larger plates best suit the table. The ground-floor bar works for a drink, while the upper level is the place for dinner and the view. Book that distinction clearly in peak season, mention allergies in advance and expect a more considered—and more expensive—meal than a simple grill house.
