Swim beneath neoclassical houses, then stay for the western light on the castle walls
This beach works because it belongs to the town. You can leave the museum, swim, and continue along the neoclassical waterfront without moving a car. The castle peninsula closes the southern view, while the west-facing bay carries late light. Organised sections appear in season, but the promenade remains useful throughout the year.
The shore mixes sand with small pebbles and entry varies by section. Choose a clearly maintained access point rather than crossing rocks near the castle. Wind can push chop into the bay, so check conditions before sending children into the water. Cafes and accommodation sit nearby, though toilets and lifeguard coverage should be confirmed for the exact season.
