Roukounas Beach

Roukounas offers the island's broadest sweep of golden sand, tamarisk shade and a social summer rhythm without dependable resort-level facilities.

Our take

Anafi's long south-coast beach for a full, self-sufficient day

Roukounas has enough length to support different moods: families and day visitors near the main approach, quieter sand towards the ends and informal shade under tamarisks where available. The open south-coast position also means the sea can change with wind. Walk the shore before settling and judge the day's entry, waves and current rather than treating its popularity as a safety rating.

The seasonal bus and paved road make Roukounas accessible, but schedules, food and toilets remain seasonal. Carry more water than a café stop seems to require, protect the tamarisk roots and remove every item you brought. Reports about informal camping do not establish current legality; follow municipal instructions and never occupy dunes or access paths. Naturism may occur on quieter sections, so choose another part of the long shore if that is not comfortable for your group.
