A spacious south-coast shore beneath three sea rocks
Triopetra takes its name from the three slabs rising at the eastern end of a broad south-coast beach. Coarse sand and fine pebble stretch well beyond the small cluster of tavernas, so even a busy August day usually leaves room to walk away from the organised section.
The water gains depth and the open coast has little defence from wind or swell. Use the marked access rather than scrambling over the layered rocks, which can be sharp and slippery. Shade is scarce outside concessions, and the drive from Rethymno is winding enough to discourage rushed return plans.
