Save the southern road for a settled-weather day when the journey, heat and unsupported return have all been planned
Vlychada rewards the traveller who has already learned the island's scale and wind. The road south crosses open, sparsely settled ground before descending toward a natural bay. Leave early, stop safely before the final approach if the surface deteriorates and keep enough time for the return; a quiet beach is not useful if transport becomes uncertain.
There is no dependable lifeguard, shade, drinking water or phone signal. Take footwear, more water than expected, food and basic first aid. Judge swell and current before entering, and stay visible to companions. Never drive beyond the vehicle's clearance or block a turning place. Carry every item of waste out and observe absolute fire caution on dry ground.
